Just a Covering
New fallen snow. A beautiful site that reminds many of us of forgiveness, purity or a new start. I woke up Saturday to a thin coating of new white snow. Old snow from past weeks now covered with fresh. But by the afternoon, what was enveloped was now exposed. The tainted past was brought into the light once more.

So often we try to cover up the hurts, pains and disappointments from our past without dealing with the issues underneath. That is like trying to build a house on a faulty foundation.

When a friend hurts you and instead of talking through the problem you decide to just "forget about it" and go on, you run the risk of that hurt eventually coming back to the surface. When it pokes its ugly head out again, it will cause more pain than before.

You are forced to deal with a traumatic event. You bury it under the guise of "I'm ok" or even "God and I are handling this." If you were truthful with yourself, you just want it to go away so you dismiss it. It gnaws at you from beneath the shell you created. It pops out every once in a while as depression, anxiety, or irritability, to name a few.

In order to heal from wounds, hurts, or issues from our pasts we need to deal with them. Confronting them in healthy ways. Confronting a friend about a hurt, consulting a pastor or counselor about an issue or event, will allow you to travel toward healing and not stall out on the side of the road.

Just covering something won't repair, fix, or restore it. Instead it will allow it to stagnate and stink up your life. Proverbs 18:14 & 15 say, "a crushed spirit who can bear? The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge; the ears of the wise seek it out."

Ask yourself if there is anything that you have covered and has crushed your spirit. What steps do you need to take to seek out healing?
